Gift Oladele, then aged 24, of Manchester, has been handed a 25-year extended sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court after being convicted of dragging a teenager into woods and violently raping her in Wrexham.
The conviction follows an investigation by North Wales Police into the attack, which occurred after Oladele approached the 19-year-old victim outside a takeaway in Wrexham city centre.
After claiming he lived nearby and walked the same route, Oladele followed the woman and refused to leave her presence.
When they reached an isolated stretch, Oladele grabbed the victim, covered her mouth, and dragged her into dense woodland.
He struck her in the head six times, inflicted extensive bruising, and subjected her to a violent rape.
During the ordeal, Oladele told the victim: “At least you have been raped by someone good-looking,” before warning her that he would track her down if she reported the assault.
The victim returned home in distress and immediately alerted her family, who contacted the police.
Detectives arrested Oladele the following day at a relative’s home in Wrexham, where officers recovered a hidden mobile phone containing internet searches relating to sexual attacks.
The court heard that Oladele had a prior conviction from 2022 for a sexually motivated offence and had successfully fought off Home Office deportation proceedings to Nigeria on human rights grounds.
Furthermore, at the time he carried out the Wrexham assault, Oladele was on police bail regarding a separate rape allegation in Manchester from November 2024.
Oladele maintained a defence of consent during a trial at Mold Crown Court, but the jury rejected his claims, finding him guilty of:
- Rape
- Sexual assault
At his sentencing hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court, the judge deemed Oladele a dangerous offender and passed an extended determinate sentence.
The disposal comprises a 17-year custodial term coupled with an extended licence period of eight years, bringing the total sentence to 25 years.
In addition, the judge imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and a lifetime restraining order prohibiting Oladele from ever contacting the survivor.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing extended determinate sentences for dangerous sexual offenders, Oladele is not entitled to automatic release. He must serve a minimum of two-thirds (11 years and four months / 136 months) of his 17-year custodial term in prison before becoming eligible to apply to the Parole Board. Release will only be granted if the Parole Board determines he no longer poses a risk of harm to the public. If released, Oladele will remain subject to strict probation licence conditions for the remainder of the custodial sentence plus the full eight-year extended licence period, ensuring continuous monitoring until the full 25-year term expires.
