A High Court judge in Glasgow has sentenced Gary Morris, the Galston Paedophile, to 12 years’ imprisonment for many rapes and sexual assaults perpetrated against two young ladies throughout their adolescent years.

Gary Morris, found guilty of several offences, was additionally registered as a sex offender indefinitely and prohibited from contacting his victims through non-harassment orders.

Judge Pattison, in pronouncing the sentence, characterised Morris’s conduct as a “pattern of sexual abuse” characterised by grooming, repeated rape, and violence.

The court was informed that Gary Morris systematically molested one victim, commencing when she was merely 13 years old and persisting into her late adolescence.

The abuse encompassed vaginal and anal rapes, frequently perpetrated during camping excursions where Gary Morris secluded her.

He also committed indecent assault against a second victim, aged 17, during an overnight stay at his residence, inappropriately touching her while she was asleep.

The judge emphasised the significant effect on the victims, now young women, who demonstrated “courage and dignity” while speaking. The initial victim recounted experiencing “pain and shame,” nightmares, terror, and recurrent self-harm, yet has transformed her experience into a means of aiding others who have had comparable abuse. The second victim recounted 16 years of anxiety, difficult relationships, and compromised recollections, including the dissolution of her connection with the first victim.

“You assert your innocence, as is your prerogative, yet the jury determined that this was your responsibility,” Judge Pattison informed Morris. Your transgressions have resulted in profound and enduring repercussions for these courageous women. This was not their fault.

The court evaluated Gary Morris’s responsibility as elevated, inflicting substantial and enduring injury on his victims. Contributing variables comprised the extended duration of the abuse, the tender age of one victim, and a substantial violation of trust. Although a risk assessment classified Gary Morris as a low risk for recidivism, the gravity of his offences necessitated a significant prison sentence.

Judge Pattison issued a consolidated 12-year sentence for all crimes, retroactively effective from June 24, 2025, the date Gary Morris was remanded. He observed that the individual sentences for the charges—varying from 2 to 7 years—would have been unreasonable, therefore necessitating the aggregate term. Gary Morris was prohibited from contacting his victims permanently and informed under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, necessitating perpetual adherence to registration requirements.

The case highlights the judiciary’s function in administering unbiased justice grounded in evidence and law, as asserted by the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service.
