Frank Bowyer, aged 78, of Ridley Road, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, 28 August 2026, after being found guilty of 18 non-recent CSA offences.
The court heard that the criminal behaviour took place over a 10-year period and involved three separate victims, all of whom were young girls aged between four and 12 years old when the offences occurred.
The historic abuse was first disclosed and reported to Suffolk Police in August 2023, prompting an extensive investigation by specialist detectives.
When questioned by officers under caution, Bowyer denied all allegations of sexual misconduct and showed no remorse for his actions.
Bowyer entered not guilty pleas to the entire indictment, forcing the case to an eight-day trial at Chelmsford Crown Court where the victims had to relive their trauma through evidence.
The jury heard victim impact statements describing the lasting psychological distress caused by the abuse, with victims detailing severe depression, persistent anxiety attacks, and the total loss of childhood safety.
Following deliberations, the jury found Bowyer guilty of:
- Seven counts of sexually assaulting a child
- Seven counts of assaulting a child by penetration
- Four counts of indecent assault
The presiding judge sentenced Bowyer to a total custodial sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment.
In addition to the custodial term, the court ordered that Bowyer be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life.
