On October 12, 2021, Esosa Eguakun, the Chichester Sex Offender, boarded a bus at Chichester Bus Station and, despite the bus being nearly vacant, chose to sit right behind a woman in her twenties.

The police stated that his behaviour caused the woman to feel “uncomfortable and threatened.”

As the flight progressed, Esosa Eguakun reached through the back of the seat and repeatedly made contact with the woman’s posterior.

She endeavoured to disembark the bus at the subsequent stop; however, upon observing that the 27-year-old was trailing her, she notified the bus driver, who subsequently contacted the police.

Law enforcement officials apprehended Esosa Eguakun on Chichester Road, Bognor.

He originally refuted the allegation during an interview, but then admitted to sexual assault and was subsequently indicted.

Esosa Eguakun, residing on Stockbridge Road in Chichester, entered a guilty plea and was registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a duration of five years.

He was mandated to fulfil a 30-day rehabilitation program, perform 200 hours of community service, and provide restitution to the victim.

Detective Sergeant Rebecca Hopkins stated: “This was an exceedingly distressing ordeal for a young woman who was merely attempting to return home.”

I extend my gratitude to her for reporting the event, which enabled our officers to promptly apprehend a suspect and assist in our investigation to ensure Esosa Eguakun is brought to justice.

I appreciate the responding and investigating officers for their comprehensive initial inquiry, pre-emptive arrest, and meticulous interrogation technique that finally led to a confession.
