Diyar Mohammed Abdulsalm, aged 28, of Ledward Street, Winsford, Cheshire, was sentenced to 11 years in prison at Chester Crown Court on Friday, 24 July 2026, after being found guilty of two counts of rape following a crown court trial.
The court heard that in the early hours of Sunday, 21 December, emergency services were alerted at approximately 4:55am regarding serious concerns for the welfare of an 18-year-old woman in Winsford. The victim had been out in the town centre when she met individuals and subsequently travelled back to a residential address. Officers attending the emergency call located the victim near The Drumber area of Winsford, where she disclosed to police that she had been subjected to a serious sexual assault.
Cheshire Police initiated an immediate criminal investigation into the report. Specialist officers secured the scene and gathered essential forensic, digital, and witness evidence, leading to the prompt arrest of Abdulsalm. Following formal police interviews, Abdulsalm was charged in connection with the attack and remanded into custody pending court proceedings.
Appearing before Chester Crown Court, Abdulsalm maintained his innocence, requiring the case to proceed to a full trial. After considering the evidence presented by the prosecution, the jury rejected his defense and returned guilty verdicts on both counts of rape.
On Friday, 24 July 2026, the presiding judge sentenced Abdulsalm to a custodial term of 11 years’ imprisonment. In addition to his prison sentence, the court ordered that Abdulsalm remain subject to indefinite registration on the sex offenders register.
