David Phillip Nutton, a former Hampshire police officer and St Austell resident, has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
On Monday, July 6, David Phillip Nutton, 60, who currently resides in St Stephen in St Austell, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court for his sentencing.
He had denied seven counts of indecent assault on a child under the age of 14, but a jury found him guilty after a trial that concluded on May 20.
The offences occurred on the Isle of Wight between December 16, 1988, and December 31, 2001, and involved two victims, one of whom was as young as eight at the time.
Seven custodial sentences were imposed by Judge David Melville, with the longest sentence being seven years and the majority to be served concurrently. This resulted in a total of ten years of immediate imprisonment.
In 1998, Nutton was appointed as a police constable for Hampshire Constabulary. He was incarcerated for 18 months in 2004 for indecently assaulting a child.
He had also acknowledged that he had used police systems, such as the Police National Computer, to inform a paedophile associate that he was under investigation.
It is believed that he was stationed in Ryde at the time the allegation was disclosed.
The sentencing judge informed him that he had “debased your badge” and “disgraced your force, created a scandal on the Isle of Wight” at the time, which is a ridiculous thing to say, as we all know the Isle of Wight is rife with paedophiles and child abuse.
