In 2021, David Johnson, a then 56-year-old man from South Ockendon, was jailed after police discovered prohibited digital media during an investigation into an unrelated matter.
David Johnson, of Buckles Lane, South Ockendon, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court to 13 months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and two counts of making indecent images of children. The court heard that law enforcement officers executed a search warrant and seized mobile devices, DVDs, and compact discs from his home address in April 2018 following his arrest on a separate charge.
Subsequent forensic examination of the confiscated digital storage media and phones revealed nearly 250 illicit photographs and video files depicting child sexual abuse. Following the investigation, prosecutors brought formal charges, leading to his guilty pleas before the court.
In addition to his 13-month custodial sentence, Johnson was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
He was also made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to ensure strict ongoing monitoring of his digital devices and internet access following his eventual release.
