Jawhir Kasir, aged 47, of Middlemarch Road, Coventry, has been sentenced to a total of 24 years at Warwick Crown Court after being convicted of multiple sexual offences against two young girls and attempting to rape a vulnerable woman.
The offences against the two children took place during the late 2000s. The court heard that Kasir subjected the girls to sustained sexual misconduct, which included repeatedly touching them inappropriately, carrying out explicit sexual acts in front of them, and forcing one young child to touch his genitals over his clothing.
In addition to the historical child abuse, Kasir targeted a vulnerable adult woman who was physically compromised and recovering from surgical treatment, subjecting her to an attempted rape.
Under UK legislation, all victims of sexual offences are protected by lifelong statutory anonymity.
Kasir, who required the assistance of an Arabic interpreter throughout court proceedings, denied the accusations and stood trial at Warwick Crown Court. Following the presentation of evidence, the jury rejected his accounts and returned guilty verdicts on charges including:
Assault of a child under 13 by penetration, engaging in sexual activity with a child, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and attempted rape.
Victim impact statements read to the court outlined the profound, enduring psychological damage caused by Kasir’s crimes. The victims detailed enduring persistent nightmares, flashbacks, shame, and severe difficulties establishing trust in personal relationships, with one stating that she felt her entire life and future had been taken from her.
Passing sentence, the judge imposed a total sentence of 24 years. Under the terms of the sentence, Kasir must serve a custodial term of 14 years and eight months behind bars before becoming eligible to serve the remainder of the sentence on licence in the community under the strict supervision of the Probation Service.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed indefinite protective measures prohibiting Kasir from contacting any of the three victims directly or indirectly, alongside statutory notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
