A woman from Peterhead has been charged with the murder of her infant daughter, who is alleged to have died as a result of being burnt by a hairdryer.
On September 30, 2023, Courtney Gartshore was in the “sole custody” of three-month-old Dahlia Rose Gartshore and was alleged to have consumed alcohol and the class B stimulant mephedrone.
Prosecutors accuse the 27-year-old of “culpably and recklessly” exposing the infant to “significant and sustained” heat on her head and body as a result of the hairdryer.
Dahlia-Rose’s injuries were so grievous that they caused her death, according to the culpable homicide charge.
According to reports, the alleged murder took place at a residence in Peterhead.
Courtney Gartshore has entered a not guilty plea.
In the day preceding Dahlia-Rose’s death, Gartshore, of Aberdeen, is accused of wilfully neglecting her and another child.
This encompasses allegations that she consumed an excessive amount of alcohol, co-slept with the infant while intoxicated, possessed controlled substances, and arranged for the children to reside in “unsanitary conditions.”
The property is purportedly littered with spoiled food and drink, as well as soiled nappies.
Gartshore is accused of possessing cocaine and mephedrone, in addition to other charges.
Yesterday, the High Court in Glasgow scheduled a brief hearing for the case.
