David Richman, a convicted sex offender who was jailed for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old child, has been released from prison and is residing in the London area under the alias David Vale.

Richman, formerly of Landguard Road, Southampton, was sentenced in September 2023 after being convicted of four sexual offences committed against a child under the age of 13. The convictions comprised three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 and one count of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

The court heard evidence that Richman subjected the young victim to a pattern of sexual abuse across multiple incidents. Richman repeatedly molested the child, undressed in her presence, and coerced her by grabbing her hand and forcing her to touch his genitals. During sentencing, the judge condemned Richman’s conduct as unforgivable, noting that he had subjected the child to the ordeal of a Crown Court trial despite knowing what he had done.

Under UK legislation, all victims of sexual offences are protected by lifelong statutory anonymity.

Richman was sentenced to a determinate term of three years’ imprisonment and placed on the Sex Offenders Register. Under standard statutory release provisions for determinate sentences of that length, offenders serve half of the term in custody before being released on licence under the supervision of the Probation Service.

Following his release from prison, Richman relocated to the Greater London area. Public protection concerns have emerged after it was confirmed that he is actively presenting himself under the changed name David Vale, including maintaining an active profile and digital presence on Facebook using the pseudonym. Registered sex offenders in the UK are legally required under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 to notify police of any name changes or pseudonyms they use within three days.
