In 2021, Colin Sharpe, a then 40-year-old man from Milford Haven, was jailed for 10 years after subjecting a child to repeated sexual abuse over several years.
Colin Sharpe, of Howarth Close, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to six child sexual offences. The court heard that Sharpe carried out systematic, serious sexual abuse against the young girl, starting when she was under 13 and continuing over a period of three to four years. The offending was disclosed in March 2021 when the victim confided in her mother, who alerted Dyfed-Powys Police.
When officers tracked Sharpe to St Ann’s Head near Milford Haven, he attempted to flee in his vehicle, crashing into a fence before fleeing on foot to a clifftop edge. A standoff ensued before a specialist police negotiator successfully talked him down, leading to his arrest. An impact statement detailed the profound psychological trauma and nightmares suffered by the victim. Judge Paul Thomas QC condemned Sharpe for abusing the child for his own gratification before handing down the 10-year sentence.
In addition to his 10-year prison sentence, Sharpe was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
He was also made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to ensure strict ongoing monitoring and control of his future contact with children upon release.
