A 41-year-old man of no fixed address has been sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after pleading guilty to exposing himself, performing a sexual act in public, and possessing the class B synthetic substance monkey dust.
Christopher Mander appeared for sentence on Monday 20 July 2026 following an arrest and charges brought by Staffordshire Police.
The prosecution outlined that Mander engaged in offensive conduct in a public setting in Stoke-on-Trent, where he intentionally exposed his genitals and carried out a sexual act in view of members of the public.
Police officers attended the scene and detained Mander. During a search following his arrest, officers discovered that he was in possession of a quantity of monkey dust, a synthetic cathinone classified as a controlled Class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
Mander appeared before the court and formally entered guilty pleas to three counts on the indictment:
Outraging public decency
Exposure
Possession of a controlled drug of Class B (monkey dust)
Passing sentence on 20 July 2026, the Crown Court judge sentenced Mander to an immediate custodial term of eight months’ imprisonment.
To mitigate future risk to the community, the court granted an application for a three-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). The prohibitions of the order mandate that Mander must not:
Intentionally expose his genitals in any public place or in any location visible to the public.
Enter the premises, car park, or grounds of the ASDA supermarket located on Scotia Road, Tunstall.
Mander will also be required to adhere to notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register and comply with statutory supervision conditions monitored by the probation service upon his release from custody.
Under UK legal reporting standards, court proceedings involving sexual misconduct and public indecency are reported in compliance with statutory provisions to safeguard witnesses and the public. Disclosing information that unlawfully identifies protected parties in sexual cases is strictly prohibited under UK law.
Mander stood convicted of:
Outraging public decency
Exposure
Possession of a Class B controlled drug (monkey dust)
Sentencing outcome and statutory measures:
Eight months’ immediate custody
Three-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) with public exposure and territorial exclusions (ASDA, Scotia Road, Tunstall)
