Callan Hennessey, aged 22, of Ferndene Road, Manchester, Greater Manchester, has been sentenced to nine and a half years’ imprisonment at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday, 27 August 2026, after being convicted of rape, strangulation, and violent assaults against a 16-year-old girl.
The criminal investigation commenced in April 2025 when a relative of the victim contacted Greater Manchester Police after the teenager was admitted to hospital with severe physical injuries.
Medical staff documented extensive trauma across the child’s body, including two black eyes, active bleeding from her ear, a swollen jaw, and deep abrasions to her face and scalp.
Detectives from the City of Manchester CID launched an immediate inquiry into the six-week period of abuse.
On 8 April 2025, police officers attended an address connected to the offending, where they discovered and seized bedsheets heavily stained with the victim’s blood.
The court heard that Hennessey was seen by a relative with blood on his own person in the immediate aftermath of the assault.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Hennessey had also raped the 16-year-old victim several weeks prior to the physical beating in April and had produced illicit indecent images.
Hennessey was arrested and formally charged with multiple violent and sexual offences.
Before the court, Hennessey pleaded guilty to two charges of assault, one charge of intentional strangulation, and one charge of creating indecent images.
He denied the sexual offence, forcing the case to a trial at Manchester Crown Court where the jury found him guilty of:
- One count of rape
The presiding judge handed Hennessey a total custodial sentence of nine and a half years’ imprisonment.
The court also imposed an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim from further contact and ordered that Hennessey be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
