On Friday, 9 January 2026, the Offender Database reported that Caitano Azavedo, 40, was sentenced to six years in prison at the High Court in Glasgow. Azavedo was convicted of a “horrifying” and serious sexual assault of a young woman in Aberdeen.

The court heard that the attack took place in the King Street and Linksfield Road areas of Aberdeen on Sunday, 22 October 2023. Detective Inspector Mark Lambley described Azavedo as a “sexual predator” whose depraved actions have resulted in a significant custodial sentence. Following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in December 2025, a jury found him guilty of the assault. The prosecution detailed the traumatic nature of the incident and the lasting impact on the survivor.

Caitano Azavedo was sentenced to six years in prison. Police Scotland expressed hope that the sentencing would provide the survivor with a sense of closure and reiterated their commitment to thoroughly investigating all reports of sexual violence with the support of specially trained officers.

As a result of his conviction for a serious sexual offence, Azavedo has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under the highest level of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in the Aberdeen area. This framework ensures that Police Scotland and partner agencies maintain permanent, intensive monitoring of his residency and movements to protect the public from further harm.
