In 2022, seven men from a Burton-upon-Trent Asian Grooming Gang were sentenced to a cumulative 51 years in prison for the sexual exploitation of three vulnerable adolescent girls in Burton-upon-Trent.
The men received their sentences at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday, 28 July, following two distinct trials in June 2021 and February 2022. Two trials were conducted because of the number of accused.
They were apprehended on 19 December 2018, following an inquiry conducted by the Staffordshire Police Child Protection and Exploitation Team. The incidents occurred between May 2018 and September 2018.
The girls were 13 years of age at the time of the acts.
Detective Sergeant Julie Pointon, of the Child Protection and Exploitation Team, stated: “We commend these sentences and wish to honour the remarkable courage of the girls in coming forward initially and throughout this protracted and intricate investigation.”
District of Columbia Darren Mattocks, of the Child Protection and Exploitation Team, stated: “We maintained our focus on pursuing justice and offering support to the victims, who remained our foremost priority.”

David Korosi, then 28, of Burton, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of the rape of a female aged 13 to 15 and two counts of sexual assault against a minor.
Maxim Hanko, then 18, from Liverpool, received a nine-year prison sentence after being convicted of three counts of raping a child aged 13 to 15 and one act of attempted rape of a girl aged 13 to 15.
Adrian Rihard Demeter, then 22, of Burton, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after being convicted of raping a female aged 13 to 15 and committing sexual assault on a child.
Renato Daniel Nyari, then 19, of Liverpool, received a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of three counts of raping a girl aged 13 to 15, sexual assault of a child, engaging in sexual behaviour with a minor, and child abduction.
Dominik Beri, then 18, of Burton, was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of raping a girl aged 13 to 15 and sexually assaulting a female.
Jeno Pierre Maka, then 21, from Stoke-on-Trent, received a sentence of four and a half years in jail after being convicted of two charges of inducing or persuading a girl aged 13 to 15 to participate in sexual conduct.
Mate Maka, then 18, from Stoke-on-Trent, was sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
