Three men who were found guilty of the rape of a woman on Brighton Beach have been sentenced to a total of more than 60 years in prison.
A woman in a vulnerable state was taken to the shore by three men and attacked, prompting the Brighton police to respond to a call at approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 5.
The victim, a woman in her thirties, was able to flee and raise the alarm, which prompted an immediate police investigation. She received assistance from our partners and specialist officers.
All three suspects were identified by CCTV footage from a nearby nightclub. The suspects had scanned their ID cards upon entering the club as part of the venue’s security measures.
Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, Ibrahim Alshafe, 26, and Karin Al-Danasurt, 21, were apprehended and identified.
Al-Danasurt attempted to defend himself by asserting that he had not been an active participant in the rape, but footage of the attack was discovered on his phone.
Al-Danasurt was charged with four counts of rape and sharing intimate images, while Alshafe and Ahmadi were subsequently charged with two counts of rape. All three were remanded into custody.
Ahmadi, an Iranian national from Crewe, and Al-Danasurt and Alshafe, both Egyptian nationals from Horsham, all entered not guilty pleas to the charges.
A jury found all three defendants guilty of all counts of rape and remanded them in custody after a trial at Hove Crown Court concluded on Thursday, April 23. Al-Danasurt was cleared of the allegation of sharing intimate images.
Ahmadi and Alshafe were each sentenced to 21 years in prison at the same court on Wednesday, July 15, while Al-Danasurt was sentenced to 18 years and six months. Additionally, all three were granted six-year extensions to their licenses.
