Anthony Marks, aged 34, previously of Finlay Road, Gloucester, Gloucestershire, was sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment at Gloucester Crown Court on 23 July 2026 after pleading guilty to engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour in an intimate relationship.
The court heard that Marks subjected a female victim in her 40s to a sustained pattern of manipulation and coercive control over several months. Whenever the victim attempted to terminate the relationship, Marks issued threats to harm both himself and her. His conduct severely restricted the victim’s daily life, leading her to cancel social plans, avoid gym visits, alter regular appointments, and refrain from engaging on social media platforms due to fear of monitoring and subsequent backlash.
The victim formally reported the offending to Gloucestershire Constabulary, opting to utilize the force’s Rapid Video Response (RVR) system to provide an initial account directly to an officer remotely. Officers from the Constabulary’s Reactive Investigation Team arrested Marks on 2 May 2026. He was subsequently charged and remained remanded in custody throughout all court hearings.
In an impact statement read to the court, the victim detailed the profound emotional devastation caused by the abuse, explaining that the non-physical trauma had fundamentally altered her character, eroded her trust in others, and left her feeling isolated and unsafe.
Appearing before Gloucester Crown Court, Marks entered a formal guilty plea to one count of coercive and controlling behaviour. The court determined an initial sentence of 45 months, which was reduced to 30 months’ imprisonment to reflect credit for his guilty plea and time served on remand.
The presiding judge ordered Marks to serve the 30-month custodial sentence and imposed a 10-year restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim.
