In 2023, a 47-year-old man was sentenced to eight years and six months’ imprisonment at Worcester Crown Court after being found guilty of an extensive series of child sexual offences committed against a young girl.

Andrew Crowe, of no fixed address, appeared before the court on Tuesday 3 January 2023 to receive sentence, having been convicted by a jury on all eight counts on the indictment following a trial in October 2022.

The prosecution outlined that Crowe targeted the female victim in Worcester over a prolonged period between 5 April 2017 and 13 January 2019, during which the child was aged under 16. The court heard the abuse commenced when the girl was 13 years of age. Crowe initially subjected her to unwanted physical contact, using hugs as a pretext to force kisses, put his tongue into her mouth, and touch her intimate areas.

The criminal conduct escalated into multiple serious incidents. The jury heard evidence that Crowe subjected the girl to repeated sexual assaults, compelled her to perform sexual acts upon him, and forced her to view pornographic material.

West Mercia Police arrested Crowe in January 2019 after the survivor bravely reported the ordeal to officers. Throughout legal proceedings and during his testimony from the witness box, Crowe maintained his innocence and flatly denied all allegations.

Following three hours of deliberation, the jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on all charges:

Six counts of sexual activity with a child

One count of causing a child to watch a sexual act

One count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity

Passing sentence, Judge Cartwright addressed the gravity of the predatory abuse, the profound psychological breach of safety, and the lasting impact inflicted on the young victim.

The judge sentenced Crowe to an immediate custodial term of eight years and six months’ imprisonment.

In addition to the prison sentence, Crowe was made subject to indefinite notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register alongside statutory protective orders.
