In 2022, the Offender Register reported that Aaron Scanlon, a convicted sex offender who drove 100 miles to a schoolgirl’s residence in Darlington and subsequently sexually assaulted her, was incarcerated.
Aaron Scanlon departed at 6 a.m. to travel to the girl’s residence in Darlington. He arrived shortly after 8 a.m. and waited outside her residence.
The 30-year-old, who had previously groomed her during “lengthy phone calls” in which he expressed his affection for her, stated that he would transport the girl to school.
He subsequently transported her to a remote lay-by, where he subjected her to a sexual assault.
The girl informed the staff of the incident after he left her off at school.
Officers apprehended Scanlon after he returned to Rochdale.
He was subsequently charged with assault by penetration and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
Scanlon, who was previously a resident of Rochdale but now resides in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland, pleaded guilty to the offences.
Last week, at Teesside Crown Court, he was sentenced to 15 years and one month in prison.
In 2010, he was convicted of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.
