In 2024, the Offender Database reported that a Rotherham Paedophile cab driver, Adam Ali, who raped two children in Rotherham two decades ago, received a 13-year prison sentence.
Adam Ali, 43, was investigated and convicted as part of the National Crime Agency’s Operation Stovewood, which looked into allegations of child sexual abuse in the South Yorkshire town.
Adam Ali, then known as Razwan Razaq, carried out his attacks between 2002 and 2004, using his automobile to take vulnerable young ladies to various areas where he assaulted them.
Following a trial in May of this year, he was found guilty of three charges of rape and three counts of sexual assault on females as young as 12 and 13.
Adam Ali was released from prison in April 2023 after serving an 11-year sentence for separate sexual crimes investigated by South Yorkshire Police. He was caught by the NCA just a month after being released, after officers learned he planned to fly to Pakistan.
Yesterday, on Tuesday, July 9, a judge at Sheffield Crown Court sentenced him to an additional 13 years in prison. In addition, he will face a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Stuart Cobb, Senior Investigating Officer at the NCA, said:
“I’d want to thank the victims in this case again for their bravery in coming forward and sharing their tales.
“They went through things that no child should ever have to go through, and I hope that the punishment handed down today will at least make them feel that justice was served.
“Operation Stovewood continues, and we are determined to do all we can to protect victims and bring offenders before the courts.”
The NCA’s Operation Stovewood remains the largest investigation of its type, looking at allegations of abuse in Rotherham from 1997 to 2013. NCA officers have identified over 1,100 victims, made more than 200 arrests, and secured 34 convictions. More than 50 current investigations continue.
Liz Fell, Specialist Prosecutor with the CPS, stated:
“Adam Ali purposely picked his victims so that he could exploit them for sex.
“Child sexual abuse is a traumatic crime with long-lasting consequences. We thank the victims in this case for coming forward and disclosing what occurred to them. Because of their testimony, we were able to obtain a conviction and bring their abuser to justice.
“I hope this conviction sends a clear message that the CPS, in collaboration with law enforcement, will persistently pursue justice and prosecute those who sexually exploit children, whenever such abuse occurs.
“I urge all victims of child sexual abuse and sexual assault to report the crimes against them to the police. “It is never too late to pursue justice.”
