In 2026, a 34-year-old former junior doctor was sentenced to two and a half years’ imprisonment at Swansea Crown Court after police uncovered Category A videos showing the rape of toddlers across his digital devices.

Thomas Jenkins, residing at Llys Cilsaig, Dafen, Llanelli, appeared before the court for sentence having entered guilty pleas to making (possessing) Category A and Category B indecent images of children and distributing an indecent image.

Prosecutor Matt Murphy outlined that in January 2026, Dyfed-Powys Police received intelligence regarding Jenkins’ involvement in online child exploitation networks. At 5am on 2 February 2026, officers executed an entry warrant at his Llanelli residence, arresting Jenkins and confiscating multiple mobile phones and tablet computers.

Forensic examinations of the seized electronics revealed a collection of child sexual abuse videos, including the most severe Category A files showing toddlers being subjected to rape. In addition, police discovered that Jenkins had actively participated in child sexual exploitation discussions using the encrypted messaging platform Telegram, where he shared an indecent image with other offenders. During police interviews under caution, Jenkins exercised his right to make no comment to all questions.

The prosecution submitted that Jenkins had operated as an active participant within a digital network established to share and distribute child sexual abuse material.

The court heard Jenkins possessed a previous conviction from Manchester Crown Court in 2017 for attempting to incite a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity. During that incident, while working as a junior doctor at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Jenkins contacted an undercover police officer posing as a 13-year-old boy on the Grindr application, sending explicit photos and messages urging sex without protection. He received a community order for that offence and was subsequently erased from the medical register by the General Medical Council.

Passing sentence, Judge Paul Thomas KC condemned the 2017 community sentence as “quite frankly astonishing” and noted that it had entirely failed to deter Jenkins. Addressing the defendant, Judge Thomas KC described him as a “committed and dangerous paedophile” and remarked: “We can all thank our lucky stars that you never qualified with your perverted sexual proclivities.” The judge highlighted that the children and toddlers depicted in the videos were real victims subjected to real sexual violence to satisfy individuals like Jenkins.

Taking into account credit for his guilty pleas, Judge Thomas KC sentenced Jenkins to an immediate custodial term of 30 months’ imprisonment.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and made Jenkins subject to lifelong notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register.
