In 2026, a 37-year-old mother was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court after admitting to an appalling series of violent assaults against her daughter that left the victim severely injured and traumatised.

Hayley Gallon, 37, appeared before the court to receive sentence having entered guilty pleas to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard distressing evidence outlining the sustained physical abuse inflicted upon her daughter, Kerris, now aged 20. The violence began escalating following the death of the victim’s grandmother from cancer in 2021. During the assaults, Gallon attacked her daughter with weapons, striking her legs with a metal bar and hitting her around the head with a curtain pole that had exposed nails protruding from the end.

In harrowing personal accounts of the ordeal, the victim detailed how Gallon repeatedly stamped on her head, dragged her across the garden by her hair, banged her head against a toilet bowl, and locked her outside in freezing conditions. The victim also disclosed that Gallon had dug a shallow grave in the garden, threatening to dispose of her corpse before beating her unconscious.

The court was told that Gallon’s cruelty extended to pouring boiling water onto the victim’s open wounds while running a bath, an ordeal that has left the survivor with permanent psychological trauma and unable to take baths. Additional abuse detailed in the victim’s accounts included being bitten, burned with lit cigarettes, and having her hair set on fire.

Gallon showed complete disregard for the victim’s welfare, later boasting to an independent witness that she had severely beaten her daughter.

The victim was finally rescued after her younger brother alerted her boyfriend, who attended the property with his father and helped her escape to safety. Attending paramedics treated the victim for extensive physical trauma, including deep facial puncture wounds, black eyes, a fractured or swollen nose, and a severe slash wound across her leg. Attending West Midlands Police officers subsequently searched the premises and recovered a blood-soaked mattress.

Sentencing Gallon, Judge Richard Bond condemned the unprovoked domestic brutality, stating: “Whatever difficulties existed in your family, what you did to her on two occasions simply can’t be justified.”

Judge Bond sentenced Gallon to an immediate custodial term of three years’ imprisonment. However, under current penal release provisions, Gallon will be eligible for release on licence after serving just one year in custody.

The victim, who continues to manage post-traumatic stress disorder and nightmares as a result of the trauma, is rebuilding her life by training as a professional nail technician and speaking out to support other domestic abuse survivors.
