In September 2026, a 43-year-old man from Norfolk was sentenced to seven and a half years’ imprisonment at Norwich Crown Court after admitting to the rape of two women he met online.

Theodore Barron, of Worcester Close, Ormesby, near Great Yarmouth, appeared for sentence on Tuesday 8 September 2026 having entered guilty pleas to two counts of rape.

The prosecution outlined that Barron connected with both victims through Facebook before arranging in-person meetings in 2022. Prosecutor Chris Youell stated that both women were subjected to non-consensual anal rape after clearly communicating to Barron that they did not consent to the act.

The first offence occurred on 9 May 2022 at a hotel in Great Yarmouth. Following consensual sexual activity, Barron ignored the woman’s explicit refusals and subjected her to a violent anal rape, telling her “you’re mine now”. Following his arrest, forensic investigators examined Barron’s mobile phone and recovered a saved memo in which Barron had recorded that he had abused the victim and caused her physical bleeding.

Four months later, on 15 September 2022, Barron committed a second anal rape against another woman inside her private residence, entirely disregarding her repeated objections. Following the incident, the second victim messaged Barron directly, stating she had developed post-traumatic stress disorder after he ignored her clear refusals.

Both complainants subsequently reported the attacks to Norfolk Constabulary. In victim personal statements read to the court, the first complainant described feeling dirty, overwhelmed, and psychologically traumatised by the assault. The second victim explained how she initially hid the ordeal out of intense shame and no longer felt safe in her own home, though declared that she was a survivor of his violation.

In mitigation, the defence highlighted that Barron suffered from significant memory problems resulting from a previous brain injury caused by encephalitis, and read a personal apology from Barron expressing shame and regret for the harm caused.

Sentencing Barron, Recorder John Hardy acknowledged the defendant’s medical condition but affirmed that nothing could excuse the pain and humiliation inflicted upon both victims. The judge stressed that the phone note proved Barron possessed a clear comprehension of the abuse he committed against the first woman, an awareness that directly aggravated his subsequent offence against the second victim.

Recorder Hardy sentenced Barron to an immediate custodial term of seven and a half years’ imprisonment.

The court also made Barron subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered him to comply with indefinite notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life.
