In 2026, a 35-year-old man from High Wycombe was sentenced to seven years and six months’ imprisonment at Oxford Crown Court after being caught on CCTV attempting to rape an incapacitated woman near an Oxford underpass.

Qadeer Hussain, of Rutland Avenue, High Wycombe, appeared before the court for sentence after entering a guilty plea to attempted rape on the first day of his scheduled trial.

The prosecution outlined that Hussain met the complainant earlier in the day on 28 March at Oxford Railway Station. The pair subsequently spent time drinking together, resulting in the victim becoming severely intoxicated to the extent that she retained minimal memory of subsequent events.

Later that evening, Hussain guided the woman towards an underpass area in Oxford and forced himself upon her. The assault was spotted on live public surveillance cameras, prompting an immediate deployment of Thames Valley Police officers who arrived while the incident was taking place and arrested Hussain at the scene.

A victim impact statement presented during the sentencing hearing described the severe psychological trauma caused by the attack, with the victim explaining that she had withdrawn from friends and lived in constant fear when walking unaccompanied, stating: “It has broken my heart and I just don’t feel safe anymore.”

Passing sentence, the Crown Court judge addressed the predatory nature of targeting an individual whose vulnerability was heightened by extreme alcohol intoxication, imposing an immediate custodial term of seven years and six months’ imprisonment.

Under statutory guidelines for serious sexual violence, Hussain must serve the mandated custodial term before being eligible for parole consideration. The court also ordered Hussain to comply with indefinite notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for life, alongside statutory protective orders preventing contact with the victim.
