In 2025, a 37-year-old man was sentenced to seven years and three months’ imprisonment at Manchester Crown Square Court after being unanimously convicted of historical child rape and indecent assault committed in Rochdale.

Andrew Shore, of Croome Gardens, Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, appeared before the court on Wednesday 26 March 2025 to receive sentence following a contested jury trial.

The prosecution outlined that the offending occurred in Rochdale during the early 2000s. Shore, who was 16 years old at the time, was placed in a position of trust to supervise and look after the victim, an 11-year-old child. Shore breached that responsibility by subjecting the girl to indecent assault and rape.

The survivor carried the psychological burden and trauma of the attacks into adult life before formally reporting the offences to Greater Manchester Police using the force’s online reporting portal.

Detectives established that Shore consistently attempted to evade justice. Throughout police interviews and court proceedings, Shore altered his accounts and sought to deflect blame, going so far as to accuse members of the victim’s own family of being responsible for the sexual violence.

On Thursday 27 February 2025, a jury at Manchester Crown Square Court rejected his claims, returning unanimous guilty verdicts on both counts on the indictment:

Rape of a female aged under 13

Indecent assault

Detective Constable Russell Clarke of Greater Manchester Police commended the survivor for her fortitude in coming forward and reliving the ordeal at trial, noting that Shore completely betrayed the trust placed in him when left in charge of an 11-year-old child.

Passing sentence, the Crown Court judge addressed the profound breach of trust and long-lasting psychological harm inflicted upon the child, sentencing Shore to an immediate custodial term of seven years and three months’ imprisonment.

In addition to the prison term, the court issued an indefinite restraining order prohibiting Shore from making any contact with the victim and made him subject to indefinite notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
