In October 2026, a 34-year-old man from Barrow was sentenced to 20 weeks’ imprisonment at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court after systematically breaching an interim stalking protection order and waging a harassment campaign against a neighbour.

Aaron Jackson, of Buxton Street, Barrow, appeared via video link from HMP Preston on Monday 19 October 2026 for sentence after entering guilty pleas to three counts of breaching an interim stalking protection order and one count of harassment without violence.

The prosecution detailed that Jackson had formed a brief professional connection with the female victim before developing an unhealthy fixation. Prosecutor Lee Dacre noted that Jackson believed he needed to protect or save the woman, describing his conduct as fixated and obsessed.

An interim stalking protection order was granted by the court on 3 September, explicitly prohibiting Jackson from contacting the complainant or placing her home under surveillance. However, between 3 September and 20 September, Jackson repeatedly disregarded the restrictions. The violations came to light when Jackson’s mobile telephone was handed over to police for inspection, revealing that he had transmitted over 100 unwanted messages to the victim and captured photographs of individuals entering and leaving her residential flat.

The order also contained a geographical boundary barring Jackson from an exclusion zone near the Co-op store on Island Road in Barrow. On 13 September, Jackson breached this restriction by sitting on a wall ledge located within the prohibited area for roughly ten minutes.

During the same timeframe, between 4 September and 25 September, Jackson engaged in a course of conduct amounting to harassment against a neighbour connected to the proceedings. Jackson sent a series of hostile and abusive communications, including messages stating: “Get a life and keep your nose out”, branding her a “pathetic woman”, and claiming: “Our relationship is better than ever.”

Mitigating on Jackson’s behalf, defence solicitor Andy Gallagher submitted that his client had become emotionally involved too rapidly, required professional support, and apologised for his conduct, requesting that any custodial penalty be suspended.

Magistrates rejected the application for a suspended term. Bench chairman Chris Harris noted the persistent nature of the breaches, Jackson’s poor record of compliance with supervision, and a relevant previous conviction for harassment.

The court sentenced Jackson to an immediate custodial sentence of 20 weeks’ imprisonment. He was also made subject to a 12-month restraining order and ordered to pay £85 towards prosecution costs and a statutory victim surcharge of £154.
