A Leicester man has been sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment at Derby Crown Court for his role in transporting a vulnerable 17-year-old girl to Derby, where she was subjected to commercial sexual exploitation.

Tylar Neilson, Tylar bless on Facebook, of Leicester, appeared for sentencing following an inquiry by police into the trafficking and sexual exploitation of a teenager residing in care.

The prosecution detailed that Neilson had formed a connection with co-defendant Leighton Murray while both men were serving prison sentences. Following release, Neilson assisted Murray’s operation by driving the 17-year-old victim from Leicester to a hotel in Derby between 12 and 15 December 2015.

The court heard that the teenager was subsequently placed in a city hotel room and coerced into prostitution. While defence counsel Wendy Miller stated that Neilson’s involvement was confined to driving the victim rather than booking accommodation, arranging clients, or profiting directly from prostitution, the court found that he participated with full awareness of the illicit purpose of the journey.

Neilson entered a guilty plea to:

One count of arranging or facilitating child exploitation (committed between 12 and 15 December 2015)

Passing sentence, Judge Nirmal Shant QC addressed Neilson’s complicity in the trafficking of the victim:
“You had met your co-defendant in prison and you became involved knowing what was happening and what the consequences were. Your role was to transport this teenager from Leicester to Derby knowing she was going to be a prostitute.”

The judge sentenced Neilson to an immediate term of eight months’ imprisonment.
