A 45-year-old man from Ewloe has been sentenced to two years and eight months’ imprisonment at Mold Crown Court after admitting to the sustained sexual exploitation of a 16-year-old girl.
Trevor Scanlon, of Briarwood Road, Ewloe, appeared for sentence on Thursday 22 October 2026 following an investigation conducted by North Wales Police.
The prosecution outlined that Scanlon targeted the teenage victim over a period spanning several months. During that time, he engaged in explicit sexual conversations, coerced the girl into supplying images in exchange for financial compensation, and sent disturbing messages outlining his intentions and desires to subject her to sexual abuse.
The exploitation was uncovered when the victim’s parents inspected her mobile device and discovered multiple transactions totalling over £400 transferred to her through an application. Recognising the illicit nature of the payments, the parents contacted law enforcement.
Scanlon was arrested and charged, subsequently entering a formal guilty plea to a charge of causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child.
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Daniel George stated:
“I commend the victim for her patience and her bravery throughout the investigation. It is hoped that the sentencing allows for some closure and supports her in moving forward with her life.
“Our message to those who target children for sexual exploitation is clear: we will investigate, we will pursue the evidence, and we will hold offenders to account. Tackling violence against women and girls remains a foremost priority for North Wales Police and we will continue to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.”
Passing sentence, the Crown Court judge addressed the predatory nature of the grooming, the manipulation of a vulnerable child through financial incentives, and the psychological harm inflicted. The judge sentenced Scanlon to an immediate term of two years and eight months’ imprisonment. Scanlon will serve half of his sentence behind bars before being released on licence under the statutory supervision of the Probation Service.
To ensure long-term public protection, the court granted a Sexual Harm Prevention Order until further order, containing stringent restrictions governing his use of digital devices and prohibiting contact with young people. Scanlon was also made subject to mandatory notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and permanently barred from regulated activity involving children or vulnerable adults.
