A 29-year-old man from Scunthorpe has been sentenced to 11 years’ imprisonment at Grimsby Crown Court after being found guilty by a jury of carrying out a violent sexual assault and repeatedly raping a woman who feared for her life.
Toby Snow, of Scunthorpe, appeared for sentence on Friday 16 October 2026 following an inquiry led by Humberside Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit.
The court heard that the investigation was initiated in March 2026 after police received a third-party report detailing that a woman had been repeatedly raped in the early hours of the morning by a man known to her, identifying Snow as the perpetrator. Officers deployed immediately and arrested Snow that same day.
The survivor disclosed to detectives that Snow had returned to the property following a night out and pinned her down against her will. To prevent her from summoning assistance or calling emergency services, Snow took her mobile phone and subjected her to a violent sexual ordeal. The victim described fearing for her life during the attack. Afterwards, Snow attempted to evade responsibility by telling the victim he intended to harm himself so he would not have to face prison.
During formal police interviews, Snow denied all allegations put to him. His refusal to accept responsibility led to him being charged, remanded in custody, and forced the survivor to give evidence during a four-day trial at Hull Crown Court, which concluded on Friday 4 September 2026.
Jurors rejected his defence and delivered guilty verdicts on all counts:
Three counts of rape
One count of assault by penetration
Detective Constable Douglass, who led the investigation for the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit, commended the survivor’s resolve:
“I would like to start by commending the sheer bravery of the woman in coming forward and for her patience throughout all the court proceedings whilst Snow refused to admit his actions and forced her to relive what happened to her during the trial.
“These offences were appalling and deeply violating; the level of abuse and violence Snow subjected a woman to showed complete disregard for her wellbeing, dignity and safety.
“We take all reports of sexual offences extremely seriously and will continue to seek justice for those who have suffered at the hands of individuals like Snow who have committed such despicable crimes.”
Passing sentence at Grimsby Crown Court, the judge addressed the extreme violence and violation involved in the offending, sentencing Snow to 11 years’ immediate imprisonment. Under statutory release provisions for serious sexual offences, Snow will be required to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence behind bars before the Parole Board will consider him for release on licence.
The court also ordered that Snow remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and permanently barred him from working with children or vulnerable adults.
