Bailey Loveridge, who was sentenced to seven years’ youth detention in 2021 for the rape and sexual assault of two females, has been released from custody today subject to a five-year extended supervision order.
The Royal Court of Guernsey heard that Loveridge systematically used social media channels to contact and groom both victims prior to the attacks. The first incident took place at a location in St Peter Port in 2019, where Loveridge subjected a female to an indecent assault and rape. Following his initial arrest, Loveridge was released on bail pending further proceedings.
While subject to bail restrictions, Loveridge reoffended in February 2020, carrying out an indecent assault against a second victim, a female child under the age of 16.
Under legislation protecting victims of sexual offences, both individuals are granted lifelong statutory anonymity.
Loveridge maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings and denied all charges. However, following a trial before the Royal Court, Jurats found him guilty on all counts. The court concluded that Loveridge posed an ongoing sexual risk to females and classified him as a dangerous offender.
In 2021, the Royal Court sentenced Loveridge to six years’ youth detention for the rape, alongside a concurrent 18-month term for the indecent assault on the same victim. An additional 12-month detention period was imposed consecutively for the second indecent assault committed on bail, resulting in an aggregate seven-year custodial term.
Having completed the custodial element of his sentence, Loveridge was discharged from detention today. He now enters an extended sentence period requiring five years of compulsory supervision. Under the strict terms of his release conditions, Loveridge is subject to mandatory oversight regarding his place of residence, his employment, and whether he is permitted to leave the island. He is also prohibited from possessing or using any internet-enabled device without explicit authorisation from his supervising officer.
