Craig Grace, aged 39, of Bagshot, Surrey, has been sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment at Guildford Crown Court after being convicted of a violent attack in which he stabbed a woman, threatened her life, and subjected her to repeated rapes.

The incident occurred towards the end of January, when Grace launched an assault against a woman known to him. The court heard that Grace armed himself with a knife during the altercation, using the weapon to stab and wound the victim in the hand. Grace then utilised threats to kill the woman to prevent her from attempting to flee the premises, before subjecting her to a series of rapes and sexual assaults.

Under UK legislation, all victims of sexual offences are protected by lifelong statutory anonymity.

The victim eventually managed to escape Grace’s control and immediately contacted emergency services. Surrey Police initiated an urgent response, and within 24 hours of the 999 call being logged, detectives had tracked down, arrested, formally charged, and secured Grace’s remand into prison custody.

The case proceeded to trial at Guildford Crown Court, where Grace exercised his right not to give evidence in the witness box.

Following deliberations, the jury convicted Grace on all six counts on the indictment:

  • Two counts of rape
  • One count of sexual assault
  • One count of inflicting grievous bodily harm (GBH)
  • One count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
  • One count of making threats to kill

On 29 September 2026, the presiding judge handed Grace an immediate determinate custodial sentence of 14 years. Under statutory provisions for serious sexual and violent offences, Grace must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence behind bars before becoming eligible to be considered for conditional release on licence by the Parole Board.

In addition to the custodial term, the court granted an indefinite restraining order prohibiting Grace from making any contact with the victim, alongside mandatory lifetime notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register.
