James Chynoweth, aged 22, formerly of Arnold and Mapperley, Nottinghamshire, has been released from prison custody on licence after serving six months of a 12-month sentence for offences involving rape, sexual abuse, and violence against two teenage girls.
The convictions arose from proceedings held at the High Court in Edinburgh, where prosecutors detailed a sustained pattern of abusive and violent conduct spanning several months.
The court heard that Chynoweth subjected both teenage victims to ongoing physical intimidation and repeated assaults.
During one violent incident, Chynoweth twisted a victim’s arm with sufficient force to cause physical injury.
In further incidents, Chynoweth carried out the rape and sexual assault of a victim.
Under statutory legislation, victims of sexual offences are protected by lifelong anonymity.
Following his conviction at the High Court, Chynoweth was handed an immediate custodial term of 12 months.
Reports indicate that Chynoweth is currently residing in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, following his release.
Release Calculation: Under Scottish sentencing provisions governing short-term determinate sentences (custodial terms under four years), offenders are released automatically on statutory licence at the 50 per cent mark of their sentence. Having completed six months of his 12-month term, Chynoweth was discharged into the community under post-release supervision conditions managed by criminal justice services.
