Alexander Ord, of New Hartley, Northumberland, has been released from prison custody on licence after serving the custodial term of a 16-year sentence imposed in 2016 for a series of rapes and sexual assaults against four victims.
Ord was convicted following a Crown Court trial where a jury found him guilty of three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The offences involved three adult women and a 15-year-old child.
Under UK legislation, all victims of sexual offences are protected by lifelong statutory anonymity.
The trial heard details of how Ord targeted female victims when they were asleep, unconscious, or otherwise incapacitated.
Evidence presented in court established that:
- One woman was raped by Ord whilst lying in bed next to her young daughter.
- A second woman was physically pinned down and raped inside the privacy of her own home.
- The 15-year-old child was sexually assaulted whilst she was asleep.
In 2016, the trial judge sentenced Ord to an immediate determinate custodial term of 16 years.
Authorities have now confirmed that Ord has completed the custodial threshold of his term and has been discharged from prison into the community.
Release Calculation: Under the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 applicable to determinate sentences of this length imposed at the time, prisoners become eligible for release on statutory licence at the halfway mark (eight years) or two-thirds threshold depending on specific statutory release schedules and parole review. Having served the custodial requirement behind bars, Ord will serve the balance of his 16-year sentence in the community on licence under the supervision of the Probation Service, subject to recall for any breach of licence conditions, alongside lifetime notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register.
