Ryan Smith, of Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, is scheduled to be released from prison custody within weeks under statutory licence provisions, having served just eight months of a 27-month sentence.
Smith was sentenced on 3 February 2026 following criminal proceedings that encompassed multiple serious offences against three separate victims.
The court heard that Smith’s offending comprised:
- The sexual assault of a 14-year-old child
- The rape and physical assault of an adult woman in her 20s
- Coercing and pressuring a seven-year-old child to obtain indecent photographs
Under UK legislation, all victims of sexual offences are protected by lifelong statutory anonymity.
Following his conviction, the court imposed a total determinate custodial term of 27 months. In addition to the prison sentence, Smith was ordered to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register for a period of seven years, handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), and placed under several protective restraining orders.
Release Calculation: Under UK standard determinate sentencing rules for fixed-term sentences, offenders become eligible for release on licence at the halfway mark or earlier depending on remand time served and statutory release schemes. With time spent in custody, Smith is due to be discharged from prison after approximately eight months to complete the remainder of the 27-month term on licence in the community under the supervision of the Probation Service.
