Christopher Peace-Cook, aged 25, has avoided immediate imprisonment at Hereford Crown Court after admitting the possession of Category A child sexual abuse images, despite the offence representing his third breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The court heard that Peace-Cook accessed and viewed video files depicting the sexual abuse, rape, and torture of young children, with victims identified as young as eight years of age.
Category A represents the most severe tier of child sexual abuse material recognised under UK legislation.
During the proceedings, prosecutors outlined Peace-Cook’s established history of non-compliance with the court system.
The incident marked the second occasion on which he had been convicted for possessing child sexual abuse material, as well as his third separate breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
The court was informed that Peace-Cook committed his very first breach of the order just four days after the restrictions were initially imposed in 2018.
Sentencing him, Judge Head addressed the wider harm caused by consumers of such material, describing the ongoing market and demand for videos of children being abused as “truly awful”.
The judge remarked to Peace-Cook that he hoped “the penny would finally drop”, cautioning him that any subsequent failure to adhere to the requirements of the sentence would make the activation of his custodial term “almost certain”.
Despite the severity of the Category A material and his pattern of repeated court order violations, Judge Head determined that the custodial threshold did not require immediate detention.
Peace-Cook received an 11-month custodial sentence, suspended for an operational period of two years.
In addition to the suspended prison term, the court ordered Peace-Cook to:
- Complete a 26-day structured offender behavioural programme
- Undertake 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days
- Carry out 105 hours of unpaid community work
- Pay a statutory victim surcharge
The court also ordered the confiscation and destruction of all electronic devices seized during the police investigation.
