After being found guilty, a Bishop Auckland takeout worker who sought asylum in Britain before sexually abusing a lady twice may now be deported to Iran.
When Karwan Ahmady, 34, came in the UK in November 2021, he said he was afraid to go back to Iran. After that, he received a five-year visa that allowed him to work and pursue barbering training.
However, after a jury found Ahmady guilty of twice assaulting a woman, his life in Britain is now in danger.
His victim felt ill after the attacks and wondered if she would ever be able to trust men again.
After a trial at Teesside Crown Court in August, Ahmady was found guilty. He has been detained at Stockton’s HMP Holme House on remand since February.
The court heard complaints about Ahmady’s predatory behaviour, and the Probation Service determined that he posed a HIGH RISK to women and children.
Ahmady, who had sexually attacked the woman twice, was called a “opportunist” with a “sense of entitlement” by Judge Richard Bennett.
He received a mere 12-month prison sentence.
Depending on the computation of time served, the sentence may result in his quick release due to the amount of time he has already spent in custody.
However, his conviction can have repercussions outside of jail.
The court heard that Ahmady’s immigration status might now be in jeopardy, and his attorney, Laura Miller, stated that the convictions might also make it impossible for his fiancée in Iran to accompany him since her application is dependent on his immigration status in Britain.
Subject to the relevant immigration procedure, he can also be subject to deportation procedures after his release.
Ahmady received a 10-year restraining order prohibiting him from contacting or approaching his victim, as well as an order to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years.
In search of safety, he travelled to Britain. He was later found guilty of twice sexually abusing a lady.
His future in the UK may now be seriously in jeopardy due to his high risk assessment.
