Dylan Jepson, aged 22, of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, has been sentenced to an extended determinate sentence of 13 years and 11 months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after being convicted of rape and an extensive series of sexual offences against children.
The case originated from an attack in Tunstall in February 2022, when Jepson approached an adult woman on the street and subjected her to a violent rape.
The victim reported the attack to Staffordshire Police, leading detectives to arrest Jepson.
An initial examination of his confiscated mobile handset uncovered indecent images of children alongside extreme pornography.
While released under investigation and subsequently placed on police bail, Jepson repeatedly used digital platforms to seek out and exploit children.
In October 2024, the mother of a young girl inspected her daughter’s mobile device and discovered sexually explicit communications originating from Jepson.
Officers arrested and interviewed Jepson again before granting him bail.
In August 2025, Jepson targeted another girl after establishing contact via Snapchat.
He persistently pressured the victim to send him sexually explicit photographs and transmitted video files depicting himself carrying out a sexual act.
Staffordshire Police rearrested Jepson and successfully applied to have him remanded in prison custody.
In-depth forensic examinations of his digital devices uncovered communications with several further young victims, establishing that Jepson engaged in the conduct fully aware of the young ages of the children involved.
Jepson stood trial and was found guilty of rape, having entered prior guilty pleas to an extensive catalogue of child exploitation charges, including:
- Nine counts of sexual communication with a child
- Two counts of causing a child to watch a sex act
- Three counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity
- Attempted sexual communication with a child
- Two counts of attempting to cause a child to watch a sex act
- Sending an indecent image intending to cause alarm, distress, or humiliation
- Making indecent images of children
- Possessing extreme pornography
Appearing for sentence at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday, 17 September, the judge found Jepson to be a dangerous offender who posed an ongoing risk of serious harm to the public.
The court imposed an extended sentence of 13 years and 11 months, comprising a custodial term of 10 years and 11 months (131 months) and an extended licence period of three years.
Jepson was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period (for life) and handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Release Calculation: Because Jepson received an extended determinate sentence as a dangerous offender for serious sexual offences, standard automatic release provisions do not apply. Jepson is required to serve a minimum of two-thirds of his 10-year and 11-month custodial term (seven years, three months and ten days / approximately 87 months) in prison custody before becoming eligible to apply for parole. His release remains entirely at the discretion of the Parole Board, which must determine that his detention is no longer required for public protection. If released, he will serve the remainder of the custodial term plus the three-year extension on licence under strict probation monitoring.
