Jordan Gray-Higgs, then aged 40, of Waver Close, Corby, Northamptonshire, has been handed an extended sentence of 21 years at Leicester Crown Court on Friday, 11 September, after being found guilty of nine serious sexual offences against two children, including four counts of rape.
The prosecution follows an investigation led by Leicestershire Police that began in 2022 when two female survivors came forward to report sexual offences that had been committed against them more than a decade earlier.
The court heard that Gray-Higgs carried out the offences in Leicestershire between 2012 and 2014, when both victims were children under 13 years of age.
The victims gave evidence detailing how Gray-Higgs had groomed and incited them to participate in sexual activity before subjecting them to repeated sexual assaults and rapes.
When arrested and questioned by detectives, Gray-Higgs flatly denied all criminal allegations.
In an attempt to deflect responsibility, he claimed during police interviews that the victims had fabricated the claims as an act of personal vengeance against him.
Gray-Higgs maintained his innocence throughout a contested Crown Court trial in May.
The jury dismissed his assertions, returning guilty verdicts on all nine counts:
- Four counts of rape
- Four counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching
- One count of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity
Investigating officer Detective Constable Kam Kalia praised the remarkable courage and fortitude displayed by both victims throughout the investigation and subsequent trial proceedings, highlighting that their clear testimony was crucial in securing the convictions and holding Gray-Higgs accountable.
On Friday, 11 September, the presiding judge determined that Gray-Higgs posed a significant danger to the public, passing an extended determinate sentence comprising 17 years in prison (204 months) coupled with an extended licence period of four years, bringing the total sentence to 21 years.
The court additionally directed that Gray-Higgs be placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely for life.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing extended determinate sentences for serious sexual offences, Gray-Higgs is not eligible for statutory release at the halfway mark. He is required to serve a minimum of two-thirds (136 months / 11 years and four months) of his 17-year custodial term in prison custody before becoming eligible to apply to the Parole Board for release on licence. If approved for release, Gray-Higgs will serve the remainder of the sentence under strict probation supervision in the community until the full 21-year term expires.
