Mohammed Ismail, aged 39, from Birmingham, is being sought by South Yorkshire Police on an active warrant after failing to appear at court to answer a charge of rape.
The charge follows an investigation carried out by detectives into a rape reported to have occurred in Rotherham in 2024.
Following inquiries, officers arrested and formally charged Ismail in connection with the attack.
Ismail was scheduled to appear in court on 2 June 2026, but failed to attend his hearing.
Following his failure to surrender to the court, a bench warrant was issued for his immediate arrest, and ongoing efforts to track down his whereabouts have so far been unsuccessful.
South Yorkshire Police have now circulated a public appeal to help trace him.
Ismail is described as a Black male, approximately 6ft in height, and of a slim build.
In addition to his background in Birmingham, detectives have confirmed that he has strong local links to Sheffield, where he is known to frequent the Rockingham Street area.
Officers have urged anyone with relevant information or sightings of Ismail to contact South Yorkshire Police directly on 101, referencing investigation number 14/78438/24, or to report details anonymously through Crimestoppers.
