In 2026, Jake Regan, then aged 33, of Borrough Avenue, Leeds, West Yorkshire, was sentenced to five years and six months’ imprisonment (66 months) at Leeds Crown Court after pleading guilty to multiple online sexual offences involving children and the possession of Class A drugs.
The sentencing followed an investigation by West Yorkshire Police’s Leeds Safeguarding Unit into offences committed across digital networks between 2023 and 2025.
The court heard that Regan engaged in calculated online activity targeting young girls, believing that his actions across remote communications could be carried out without detection or consequence.
During the two-year period of offending, Regan coerced a child into engaging in sexual activity and caused a child to watch sexual activity.
He also made persistent attempts to engage in sexual activity with a child on two separate occasions.
Specialist safeguarding officers executed a search warrant at Regan’s home address, seizing digital hardware for technical interrogation.
Digital forensic analysis established that Regan had made an indecent photograph of a child.
During the physical search of the flat, officers also discovered a quantity of Class A methamphetamine.
Confronted with forensic digital records and seized physical evidence, Regan entered guilty pleas to:
- One count of causing a child to engage in sexual activity
- One count of causing a child to watch sexual activity
- Two counts of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child
- One count of making an indecent photograph of a child
- One count of possession of a Class A drug (methamphetamine)
Detective Inspector Victoria Thomas of the Leeds Safeguarding Unit stated that online sexual offences against children are profoundly damaging, noting that the watertight evidence compiled by investigators left Regan with no alternative but to admit his guilt.
On Wednesday, 2 September 2026, the presiding judge handed down a total custodial sentence of five years and six months’ imprisonment.
In addition to the custodial term, Regan was made subject to the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register and served with a restrictive Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) designed to strictly regulate his digital access and prevent contact with children upon release.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing serious sexual offences carrying long determinate sentences, Regan is required to serve two-thirds (44 months / 3 years and 8 months) of his 66-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence. His earliest release eligibility date falls in May 2030, whereupon he will remain subject to strict licence conditions, probation supervision, and SHPO restrictions for the remaining 22 months of his sentence until March 2032.
