In 2026, Lilly Morgan Hubbard, then aged 25, of Bordeaux Close, Northampton, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment (24 months) at Northampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to a sustained campaign of domestic abuse, intentional strangulation, and arson against her former partner.
The sentencing concluded an investigation conducted by Northamptonshire Police’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit in conjunction with West Midlands Police.
The court heard that Hubbard first encountered the victim on TikTok in March 2025, moving into the woman’s home in the West Midlands shortly afterwards.
The relationship rapidly deteriorated as Hubbard established an oppressive regime of controlling and coercive behaviour, regularly inspecting the victim’s phone and starting volatile arguments whenever she communicated with female friends.
The situation escalated to physical violence in July 2025, resulting in Hubbard being arrested and charged by West Midlands Police with assault by beating and intentional strangulation.
Although granted conditional bail by magistrates with specific prohibitions against contacting the victim, Hubbard repeatedly violated the terms by telephoning the woman and transmitting video messages depicting herself engaging in self-harm via social media platforms.
Concerned for Hubbard’s immediate welfare, the victim agreed to resume contact and travelled to Hubbard’s address in Bordeaux Close, Northampton, on 21 October 2025.
Hubbard exploited the visit to reassert control, culminating on 23 October 2025 when she deliberately ignited a fire on a carpet and set alight a roll of toilet paper to block the victim from exiting the premises.
Fearing severe injury, the woman covertly dialled 999 to alert Northamptonshire Police, enabling officers to attend the scene and apprehend Hubbard.
At Northampton Crown Court, Hubbard entered guilty pleas to:
- One count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour
- One count of arson
- One count of intentional strangulation
- One count of assault by beating
The trial judge directed that five remaining counts—including a second charge of controlling or coercive behaviour, threatening with an offensive weapon, false imprisonment, threats to kill, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm—remain on file.
The court handed Hubbard an immediate custodial term of 24 months’ imprisonment and imposed an indefinite restraining order prohibiting any contact with the victim until further notice, alongside a £187 victim surcharge order.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing standard determinate non-sexual sentences, Hubbard is required to serve one-half (12 months / 1 year) of her 24-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for automatic statutory release on licence, serving the remaining 12 months under the supervision of the Probation Service in the community.
