David Niblett, then aged 42, of Uxbridge Road, Uxbridge, West London, was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment at Portsmouth Crown Court on 14 August 2026 after being extradited from Spain for child rape offences.
The criminal investigation was launched by Sussex Police’s Public Protection Team after a young girl confided in a family member that she had been subjected to sexual abuse.
The court heard that Niblett twice raped the child, who was aged between six and eight at the time of the attacks, in West Sussex between January 2014 and December 2015.
Upon becoming aware that allegations had been formally reported to the police in 2015, Niblett fled the United Kingdom to Spain in an attempt to avoid prosecution.
Following the circulation of an Interpol Red Notice, a joint operation between Interpol, the National Crime Agency’s extradition unit, and Spanish authorities culminated in Niblett’s arrest in Spain on 30 December 2025. He was subsequently extradited back to the UK.
Appearing before Portsmouth Crown Court on 15 June 2026, Niblett entered guilty pleas to:
- Two counts of rape of a child under the age of 13
Detective Constable Jacob Parkin commended the survivor’s bravery and courage throughout the investigation, noting that Niblett had committed heinous crimes that fundamentally breached her trust.
The presiding judge handed Niblett an extended sentence of 16 years, comprising 15 years in prison (180 months) and an additional one-year period on extended licence (12 months). The court also made him subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing extended determinate sentences for serious sexual offenders, Niblett is not eligible for automatic statutory release. He is required to serve two-thirds (120 months / 10 years) of his 15-year custodial term in prison before becoming eligible to apply for parole. His earliest parole review date is August 2036. If granted release on licence by the Parole Board, Niblett will remain subject to strict licence conditions and statutory community supervision until the expiration of the full 16-year extended sentence in August 2042.
