Roland Geoffrey Dyson, then aged 60, previously of William Street, Kettering, Northamptonshire, was sentenced to one year and nine months’ imprisonment (21 months) at Northampton Crown Court on 14 August 2026 after pleading guilty to two counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The criminal proceedings followed proactive monitoring by Northamptonshire Police’s Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) team.
The court heard that Dyson was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) in 2016 following his conviction for sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13.
The order imposed strict terms, including a total ban on having contact with any girl under 16 unless her parents or guardians were fully informed of his convictions and granted permission, and social services were notified.
On 18 February, MOSOVO officers executed an unannounced compliance visit at Dyson’s residential address.
During an inspection of his electronic devices, officers identified a photograph of a child stored on his mobile telephone.
Inquiries confirmed that Dyson had recently formed a friendship with the child’s mother without informing her of his previous sexual offending against children, and had deliberately failed to notify social services of the contact.
Dyson was arrested and charged, subsequently entering guilty pleas at Northampton Crown Court to:

Lead investigator PC Kayleigh Rock stated that Dyson was fully aware of the restrictions imposed to protect children, but chose to disregard them.
The presiding judge handed down a custodial sentence of one year and nine months’ imprisonment.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing sexual offenders, Dyson is required to serve two-thirds (14 months / 1 year and 2 months) of his 21-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for automatic statutory release on licence. His projected release date falls in October 2027, whereupon he will remain subject to licence supervision in the community until the expiration of the full term in May 2028.
