Tim Meehan, then aged 49, of Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency at Basildon Magistrates’ Court following an incident at a popular nature reserve.
The prosecution followed an incident on Two Tree Island, a 259-hectare reserve situated on the Thames Estuary near Southend-on-Sea.
The court heard that a woman walking her dogs encountered Meehan near a small hill with his bottom half completely bare.
Prosecutor Sara Thompson told the court that the witness turned around but encountered Meehan again shortly afterwards, where he had his back to her and inserted a carrot into his bottom.
A second passerby intervened and instructed Meehan to put his trousers back on.
The court was informed that Meehan was suspected to have been intoxicated at the time of the offence.
Appearing in the dock, Meehan spoke only to confirm his personal details and formally pleaded guilty to:
- One count of outraging public decency
District Judge King noted that Meehan’s early guilty plea would entitle him to sentence reduction credit, but adjourned proceedings to November 2026 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the probation service.
