In 2016, William King, aged 52, of Dunfermline, Fife, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment (60 months) at the High Court in Edinburgh on 8 July 2016 after being convicted of three historical sexual offences against two young girls.
The criminal prosecution followed an investigation by Police Scotland into non-recent abuse committed between 1990 and 1995 at residential properties in Edinburgh and Inverkeithing.
The court heard that King engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with Dana Fowley when she was a 12-year-old child between August 1992 and June 1995.
Ms Fowley waived her legal right to anonymity, having waited 19 years for justice after first reporting the offences to police in 1997.
The jury also convicted King of indecency towards a second female victim between 1990 and 1994, whom he preyed upon from the age of seven until she was 10, molesting her and forcing her to perform a sex act.
King entered not guilty pleas to all charges, requiring both adult survivors to give evidence during a High Court jury trial.

- Three counts of sexual offences, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a child and indecency
Lady Wolffe sentenced King to a total custodial sentence of five years’ imprisonment and placed him on the Sex Offenders Register, highlighting society’s abhorrence of sexual abuse against vulnerable young victims.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation for sexual offences, King was required to serve two-thirds (40 months / 3 years and 4 months) of his 60-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for automatic statutory release on licence. His projected release date fell in November 2019, whereupon he remained subject to licence supervision in the community until the expiration of the full term in July 2021.
