In this report from October 2022, Lee Overton, of Woodhall Drive, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, was sentenced to five and a half years’ imprisonment (66 months) at Lincoln Crown Court on Wednesday, 26 October 2022, after being found guilty of 17 counts of sexual assault on a child under 13.
The criminal investigation was conducted by Lincolnshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People unit following reports of non-recent child sexual abuse.
The court heard that Overton targeted a child under the age of 13, carrying out a series of sexual offences spanning seven years between 2011 and 2018.
Overton entered not guilty pleas to the indictment, requiring a trial that lasted a week and a half at Lincoln Crown Court.
Following deliberations, the jury convicted Overton of:
- 17 counts of sexual assault on a child under 13 years old
The presiding judge handed Overton a total custodial sentence of five and a half years’ imprisonment.
The court also made Overton subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and ordered that he be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation applicable in October 2022, offenders receiving sentences for sexual offences are required to serve two-thirds (44 months / 3 years and 8 months) of their total 66-month term in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence. Overton’s release date on licence fell in June 2026, whereupon he remains subject to licence conditions and supervision in the community until the expiration of the full sentence in April 2028.
