In this report from October 2022, Jonathan Harris, aged 27, of The Kingsway, Swansea, was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment at Swansea Crown Court on Thursday, 27 October 2022, after pleading guilty to breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The criminal investigation commenced after a woman contacted South Wales Police to report that Harris had concealed his child sex offender status while interacting with her family.
The court heard that Harris was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) in 2019 following a 27-month prison sentence for causing a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity and causing a child under 16 to watch a sexual act.
The terms of the SHPO prohibited Harris from having unsupervised contact with boys under the age of 16 without their parents or guardians being informed of his past convictions.
Harris befriended the woman in Swansea Market, became a regular visitor to her home where he occasionally stayed overnight, and accompanied her and her young son on a three-night holiday at a caravan park in September.
It was only in October that Harris informed the mother of his convictions and the restrictions imposed upon him, prompting her to alert law enforcement immediately.
South Wales Police arrested Harris at his place of employment in Swansea Docks, where he made full admissions during formal interviews.
The court heard that this was Harris’ second breach of the order, having previously been imprisoned in October 2020 for joining dating websites and accessing unauthorised online chat rooms.
Appearing before Swansea Crown Court, Harris pleaded guilty to:

Judge Paul Thomas KC sentenced Harris to a custodial term of 10 months’ imprisonment.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation for sexual offenders, Harris was required to serve two-thirds (6.6 months) of his 10-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence. His projected release date fell in May 2023, whereupon he remained subject to licence supervision in the community until the expiration of the full term in August 2023.
