Survivors and advocacy groups gathered outside Southampton Crown Court on Monday, 17 August 2026, to demand urgent legislative reforms and stronger protections for victims of domestic abuse.
The demonstration was held in support of Paris’s Law, a campaign and parliamentary petition that surpassed 104,000 signatures in just 28 days.
Campaign founder Paris Shears addressed the crowd, describing the barriers she encountered within the justice system after reporting domestic abuse and non-fatal strangulation:
- Enduring a 530-day delay for trial proceedings to begin
- Key charges are remaining on file rather than being prosecuted
- The perpetrator received a suspended sentence instead of immediate custody
- Victims are facing displacement and trauma, while offenders avoid custodial sentences
The rally brought together several advocacy groups, including The Jessica Project and Project Salama, alongside statements from Karlie’s Law.
The event also marked the official foundation of the National Survivors Justice Coalition (NSJC), an organisation established by survivor advocates to lobby the government for systemic court reforms, enhanced victim safety measures, and stricter penalties for domestic abusers.
