Samual Walker, aged 28, of Grangetown, Teesside, was sentenced to 15 years and eight months’ imprisonment with an extended licence at Teesside Crown Court after pleading guilty to offences including rape.
The court heard that Walker subjected the victim to persistent and cruel abuse, making her life hell before attempting to blame her for what occurred. During a rape attack, which was captured on an audio recording, the woman was heard begging Walker to stop as she became increasingly distressed.
Walker initially denied the allegations and forced the case to trial. He maintained his not guilty pleas until the victim was nearing the end of giving evidence and undergoing cross-examination in court, at which point he changed his plea and admitted the offences.
Recorder Alistair MacDonald KC told the court that Walker’s decision to prolong the trial caused unnecessary distress to the victim, praising her courage for coming forward and testifying.
Concluding that Walker posed an ongoing danger to the public, the judge classified him as a dangerous offender.
Appearing for sentence, Walker was handed:
- 15 years and 8 months’ imprisonment for offences including rape
- An extended licence period of 3 years and 4 months following release
