Sajad Jamalvatan, aged 25, of Mulberry Close, Beaufort Street, Chelsea, London, was sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment with an extended five-year licence at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, 14 May 2021, after being convicted of five counts of rape.
The court heard that the offences took place between August and October 2019. Jamalvatan used escort websites to contact female sex workers and arranged for them to attend his flat in Chelsea. Upon their arrival, Jamalvatan pretended to transfer funds via a mobile banking application despite having no intention of paying.
When the victims realised they were in danger and attempted to leave the property, Jamalvatan overpowered them. If the victims attempted to resist, he used physical violence to subdue them, covering their mouths with his hands, pinning them to the ground, and warning them not to scream. In one instance, an attack lasted for over an hour.
The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into the reports, securing mobile phone downloads, message records, and hours of CCTV footage that mapped out his movements and interactions.
Following a 14-day trial at Isleworth Crown Court, a jury found Jamalvatan guilty of five counts of rape against two victims.
On 14 May 2021, the presiding judge sentenced Jamalvatan to a 19-year custodial term with an additional five years on extended licence.
